Here we have for sale this 1976 Land Rover® Series 3, which is finished in the popular Mid Grey colour scheme with Limestone wheels and sand canvas. Not only does this Series benefit from seating for all the family in (relative) deluxe comfort, but it also has a good history file of receipts for care and attention where required, including a recently fitted full reconditioned gearbox at a cost of £1200 in 2020.
Externally, this has all the features one would hope to see on a Series 3 – with a deluxe bonnet, vintage number plates, rear grab handles, larger defender style mirrors to improve visibility over standard, recent sand canvas and 750 BF Goodrich tyres with road-biased tread for the best compromise between off and on road abilities whilst filling the arches. We think the photos speak for themselves and this is a very handsome truck indeed.
On the inside, the interior has benefitted from a resume of deluxe upgrades to try and make this Series 3 as civilised as possible – with deluxe carpeting throughout the front and rear, with door cards to complete that premium feel. Three standard front seats are fitted, with rear benches fitted in the rear as photo’d – meaning seating for seven occupants including the driver. The rear also benefits from deluxe trim and a load mat to protect the floor. It is nice to note that the actual OEM floor mats are still fitted rather than a later modern type.
Out on the road, this old girl provides a pleasing period drive – the larger rubber both looks good and improves the behind-the-wheel experience through superior road holding and longer gearing. Free wheeling hubs maximise the economy of the period set up whilst also minimising propshaft and axle wear. The colour scheme turned many heads on our drive too, with lots of admiring waves and glances!
In summary, if you are looking for a Series 3 that can carry the whole family without breaking the bank, then this could be for you.
