Description

RRN 393K has undergone a complete nut-and-bolt restoration, subsequently inspected by a celebrated Land Rover specialist before passing an advisory-free MoT.

The entire process has been a dedicated labour of love to recreate a factory-fresh 1971 Land-Rover Series III" with subtle (yet sympathetic) upgrades to ensure ease of driving on modern roads. These upgrades don't refer to a sound system or a modern engine transplant - we're talking about an updated carburettor for better reliability, a seatbelt bar for extra safety and parabolic springs for improved ride comfort.

Petrol 2286cc. MOT & Tax exempt. Brand new Dueler H/ T Tyres with matching bonnet-mounted spare. Refurbished Zenith Carburettor. Brand new Exmoor Trim Canvas. Brand new Parabolic springs. Brand new wiring loom. Brand new galvanised chassis. New exhaust. New front seatbelt bar. Fully-reconditioned engine and transmission (including overdrive), alongside a professional respray of all body panels. The bulkhead was sanded and renovated prior to time in the paint booth. Freewheeling hubs and overdrive also work a treat!

The Landy boasts an exterior blend that radiates old-school charm but with a fresh hue, showcased by vintage license plates, original door mirrors and the perfect colour combination of marine blue bodywork against a fresh Exmoor Trim sand canvas hood.

The cabin has been installed with brand-new deluxe seats, all with seatbelts attached to a front seatbelt bar behind the bulkhead. The gaiters are also new and a renovated dashboard has been sourced and fitted. All the dials and gauges work as they should, as do the electrical components and the heater. The original steering wheel has been cleaned and preserved rather than replaced.

Both the front footwells and the rear tub have been fitted with tailored rubber load mats to protect against scratches and wear and tear. The rear does not feature side-facing bench seats, having been left empty to provide maximum usability. The rear half-door is held firmly in place by new chains.

The engine starts and runs without protest, pulling sweetly up to the speed limit without backfires or juddering. The exhaust burble sounds wonderful and the refurbished carburettor provides healthier power delivery. Make no mistake, this is a great engine rebuild! There's no overheating or unwarranted smells or noises to be found.

In keeping with the original build specification, the 4x4's braking system is not servo-assisted, but the brakes stop the Land-Rover without stress. All the components of the braking system have been overhauled with lashings of new parts. The steering is direct and tight, with that trademark Land-Rover stance still intact.

The Series III 88" drives better than new and is priced accordingly. Every inch of the vehicle has been inspected by specialists, and although the vehicle does not legally require an MoT, we've had the MoT check undertaken to ensure all components and structural aspects remain safe and functional. The clean MoT sheet speaks for itself!

£18, 995 ono. A very early example, this Series III 88" was built during December 1971 and registered in January 1972. Having been purchased from RKG Land Rovers of Kirkcudbright in 2003, the vehicle has been in the family for 21 years. Having been taken off the road in 2008, the Land-Rover hid in storage for several years before a thorough 3-year rebuild commenced.

We've kept the Series III's authenticity in rude health by avoiding aftermarket parts that don't fit the time frame. As an early 1971 example, the restoration remained true to the original design and spirit as possible. This restoration turns heads wherever you go!
